NETWORKING TIP OF THE MONTH - Focus Your Efforts

Networking in a business environment is typically focused primarily on marketing - creating brand awareness, prospecting for customers, or finding referral partners. Like all other forms of marketing, networking will be most effective if it is aimed directly at your target market

Networking designed to create brand awareness and for prospecting purposes should be done in groups that contain individuals who represent your ideal customers. For example, if your target market is homeowners in your community, networking at a regional senior's event, although potentially productive, would not be as productive as networking at a local chamber event.

If your ideal referral partners are Realtors, networking at a Board of Realtors event would be far more productive than networking at a local camber event. Once you have identified the business categories that represent your ideal referral partners, network with groups that will maximize your exposure to individuals in those business categories.
